Sunday was race day!!! I raced the KCCC triathlon at Shawnee Mission Park today and despite the weather forecast it was a beautiful day for a race. Once again
the swim was the roughest part of the race. I had a plan; swim fast (for me) and try to hang with the group for the 500m. Well that was a great idea up until the point I was in a mob of swimmers getting clanked and banged and searching for a clean breath. So, side stroke, side stroke, smile at Chelle on the dock as I passed by and into clear water I was and away we go!
Next up was the bike where around the first corner is the dam hill (or damn hill) depending on your mood...which is both at the end of the dam and damn steep. But to my surprise the legs powered through and the bike went well. Same result on the run, more fun with the dam (damn) hill and a quick loop and I'm back at the finish line!!
Sunday was also Team Gillespie day!!! After a fun and successful race at KCCC it was out to the Kansas 70.3 to cheer on my brother. Got there just as he was getting off the bike and cheered him on to a successful finish. Also, tried to provide support for some of my fellow MTC athletes...good races by all!!
And what does a hard working triathlete do to recover from a hard day of racing...you guessed it...mow the yard. And we're back...
